Company Profile

F.W. Langley Limited was founded around 1925 in premises what now is known as Robson Street, Hanley. The main business was in repairing electric motors and in domestic and industrial electrical contracting. Over the years more mechanical work was done and a substantial trade was built up in selling new and reconditioned electronic motors and switchgear. The company moved into the first part of their present works in Clough Street, Hanley in 1936 and in 1939 started the sister company in Chester, Fletcher Langley Ltd., by purchasing Fletchers, a small electric motor repair shop. During the Second World War, both companies expanded, the Chester Company started electrical production work to the Admiralty. At one time heating and ventilation engineering was also included but these areas have long since been abandoned. In 1998 Fletcher Langley Ltd. purchased a company called Pump and Seal Ltd.

The companies now carry out electrical contracting, electric Motor repair maintenance and sales,  very wide ranges of fabricated and repair work in mechanical engineers and pump and seal surveys and manufacturing. The emphasis throughout is on high quality engineering available on 24-hour call-out service.

These are essentially family companies, the present chairman DR. B.W. Langley being the son of the founder. Many of the employees have a long service. Particular attention is given to both security of employment and training. Apprentices are taken on a regular basis even during relatively lean times. Nearly all the present directors were originally apprenticed with one or the other of the companies

Our fully equipped workshops are probably the most comprehensively equipped in the area. Our workshop facilities include all types of machining and fabrication, electric motor rewinds and repairs. All services are kept ‘in-house’ thus enabling us to offer first class engineering at an extremely competitive cost!
